PMG launches improved project and program management solution targeting the Public Sector!

"PMG launches suite of program management, benefits/portfolio management and collaborative management software targeting the Public Sector".

Leeds, England, 08/03/04 - Hydra Managementplc today announced the launch of its program and collaborative management software designed to support the delivery of policies in the Public Sector. The new program and collaborative management solution is dedicated to helping Public Sector organisations manage end-to-end policy-making and the delivery of cross-departmental projects and programs.

In response to increasing pressure from customers for improved services, Public Sector organisations are looking to improve the way they prioritise projects, manage resources, monitor delivery, and balance the risks and rewards of investments against departmental capacity. Greater accountability is being placed on top officials across the Civil Service to achieve significant and sustainable improvement in project and program delivery.

"As Public Sector organisations face increasing pressure to deliver business strategies and policy initiatives, they are looking to improve their capacity and capability to deliver projects and programs. Many are creating Centres of Excellence and Program Support Offices to manage the successful delivery of policies." commented Heath Gray, Director of Marketing, PMG. "These Centres of Excellence need a flexible approach to project portfolio and program management that is suitable for the policy process environment. This is because program management structures are complex, accountability and resource considerations must be clearly articulated, policy decision making processes need to adapt to new situations, and delivery considerations must be embedded throughout the policy process."

"The flexibility of the Hydra solution, combined with its unique resource-centric design which tightly synchronises interdependent resources, project activities and program benefits, is ideal for Public Sector organisations. Hydra's unique design allows Centres of Excellence to match and synchronise people and resources to individual tasks, which is important as project portfolio and program management structures are typically not aligned to traditional line management structures. Therefore, Hydra allows political decision makers to increase the visibility of policy initiatives, budget allocations and project delivery by providing the necessary governance processes and transparency over resources, budgets and performance." Gray added.

Hydra provides a framework for:

  • prioritising and managing complex resources
  • maximising opportunities to implement strategic initiatives
  • anticipating the fluctuation of policy priorities
  • evaluating the impact of policy delivery and exposure to risk trade off
  • improving the discipline in reporting against key project milestones
  • managing accountability, risk assessment and governance structures
  • providing transparency over financial, activity and performance reporting
  • improving collaboration between internal and external relationships in projects

Geoff Reiss, Director of Product Strategy for PMG, Chairman of 'The Programme Management Specific Interest Group', and author of leading titles 'Project Management Demystified' and 'Program Management Demystified' has recently launched a new white paper discussing the support departments need to establish Programme Management Centres of Excellence.
